Current avatar: a self-made homage to an obscure fancomic of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Questionable quality one part deliberate intent, one part my attempt at using Microsoft Paint as Photoshop.
If you know me, hi! If you don't know me, nice to meet you! Here's a bit about me: I live in the UK, and use a confused mish-mash of American and British spellings, which is at odds with my nature as a compulsive nitpicker of spelling and grammar. I'm female, though it doesn't bother me at all if you refer to me with different gender pronouns. I enjoy games of most varieties (not including sports), stories told through a variety of media (including fanfiction), tabletop roleplaying, and drawing. I hate the taste of chocolate, which regularly surprises new people I meet and sometimes creates awkward situations when people try to be nice to me in real life. I'm a bit of a socially awkward recluse, although I really do like most people once I've gotten to know them well. If I'm being quiet, it's not because I hate you or you said something wrong, it's just because I'm bad at conversation.
Since (to me) Steam is mostly about games, let me tell you about the games I like! Many of my favourite games are RPGs and strategy games, although I've always had a soft spot for platformers. I also like some Metroidvania-style games, although they're a bit hit-and-miss with me since I've never really liked the brutal difficulty of many of them. I've not taken interest in many shooters, which is probably down to a combination of my view that they lack depth of gameplay and the fact that my accuracy is awful whether it's first-person, third-person, or top-down. (This bias extends a little bit to first-person games with combat in general.) I'll try almost any PC game so long as it's not either too disturbing - console and VR games are currently out for me, though, since I have no such equipment and no plans to acquire it.
Among my favourite games on Steam (in no particular order) are:
Terraria (something about the progression really appeals to me, although I'm of the opinion that it's not well balanced for singleplayer)
Uplink
Aquaria (which is a really innovative take on the Metroidvania genre)
Mount&Blade
The Creeper World series (though I think I'm in a minority of players who like the plot with all its glorious typos as much as they do the gameplay)
Heroine's Quest (a wonderful and under-appreciated indie RPG)
Torchlight 1 and 2 (I'm a sucker for Diablo clones)
HOARD (it's surprisingly fun for such a simple little game)
I'd recommend any and all of those to anyone else who shared my genre preferences.
I've played a variety of non-Steam games over the course of my life. Some of the most memorable to me are NetHack, Diablo 2, Neverwinter Nights, Heroes of Might and Magic 3, Pharaoh, Majesty, and Age of Empires 2. Feel free to send me a friend request if you want to chat about any of the games I've mentioned, or any others I have playtime logged on! (Although if you friend me and then don't message me in the first week, I'll probably remove you as I have a habit of doing with people when I have no idea why they sent me a friend request.)
